CANADA Student Permit

A study permit is a document allowing foreign nationals to study at designated learning institutions(DLIs) in Canada. You need to apply before travelling, and it does not grant entry into Canada. You may need a visitor visa or electronic travel authorization (eTA) too. You can apply through the Student Direct Stream online to obtain it faster. To be eligible, you must be enrolled at a DLI, have enough funds, a clean criminal record, good health, and show you will leave Canada once it expires. During your studies, you must make progress, adhere to permit conditions, and cease studies if you no longer meet requirements. Your permit may include conditions such as work and travel allowances, a departure date, or specific DLIs. If you’re a legal resident in certain countries, you may be able to get your study permit faster by applying online through the Student Direct Stream.

Upon approval of your study permit application, a letter of introduction will be sent to you for your port of entry. This letter confirms your authorization to study in Canada, but it's not your study permit. If you need an Electronic Travel Authorization ETA or visitor visa to enter Canada, you will be sent one. Make sure to travel with the same passport used for your study permit application. If you're a lawful permanent resident of the US, bring a valid passport and proof of status.
